I have this weird feeling about Alex Wood…that health permitting he’s like LEGIT, and also that he might be able to stay healthy. Yes, he had some years from hell, but how many pitchers are we seeing eventually rebound and come back from the dead? If Rodon can, why not Wood, although I definitely like Rodon more ROS…just for the sake of comparison on their health situations. Maybe I just like his pace, mental health awareness shirts and WOOF that slider
Urquidy is a nice depth piece with a low strikeout rate. I’m definitely fine with giving him up to gamble on Castillo.
I’d make the switch from Nola to Narvaez once the latter comes off the IL. But Narvaez may need to work off some rust the way Nola is now.
Yalls trade analyzer usually favors the hitting in the trade, and on top of that the SP20-50 range is a mess right now. Are these guys fair return for Justin Turner straight up? (and, I’m to the point of not trying to wring out value from him as a sell high…I have Bregman and Devers and my pitching is horrible)

Your pitching staff would have to be really bad to not jump on this. Nothing against Woodruff, but Soto is a superstar more in line with Cole, Bieber, or a healthy deGrom.
I’m riding the wave as long as I can. A 2.94 FIP and 2.84 xERA look pretty legit. He also has the highest swinging-strike rate (13.1%) and K-BB% (18.8) of his career. I’m also pleasantly surprised to see that he’s pitched 5-7 innings in every start. Although he’s also had four highly favorable matchups, he handled Coors pretty well. I’m not trusting him to make 30 starts, but enjoy him for now.
Can you talk about how to manage in-season rosters including adds/drops, when it’s time to cut a player, playing pitcher hitter matchups, holding onto prospects, picking up hot hitters/pitchers, etc.?
For reference, my league is H2H 6 categories hitting (R,HR,RBI,SB,AVG,OPS) and pitching (W,SV,K,ERA,WHIP,QS).
Maybe worth a full article but any insight helps! Thank you in advance, Andrew!
I have a deep pitching staff headed by DeGrom but I’ve had to stream shortstops all season so far with very poor results. Would you trade Corbin Burnes straight up for Corey Seager?
When do you think Bobby Witt Jr. will get the call? lm in a 12 team keeper league and I got him with Walker Buehler for Trea Turner before our keeper posting deadline. Hoping he’ll be up by the all star break.
Given your team’s situation, that type of pitcher seems perfectly fair. Turner is always one of my draft targets, but you know he isn’t playing 160 games, or even 140. Sounds like a solid pitcher will help your team more than your third-best 3B. Pablo would be my first choice
Probably perfect time too after he got shelled by Zona.
That’s a lot to cover here. As for when to cut a player, it depends on your roster situation (far easier to hold a struggling/injured player with more bench IL/spots) and your preseason expectations for that player. I’m definitely not dropping Luis Castillo or Francisco Lindor because of a slow start, but you need to have a quicker hook for lesser options not showing a pulse. I’d dig deeper than the surface BA/ERA stats (walks, strikeouts, hard hits, FIP, xERA, etc.).
I tend to not stash prospects in re-draft unless we’re talking about a game-changer (Kelenic, Franco) or it’s a deep league. That could change if a call-up seems imminent – I might try to snatch Logan Gilbert before a promotion that should come soon. I tend to have patience waiting for them. For example, I drafted Jo Adell in a 15-team league with other writers, but I recently dropped him when I needed to clear space to activate someone coming off the IL.
I’ll ride a hot hand if they have advanced stats supporting the hot streak, or if they have favorable matchups ahead. I’m typically more aggressive when it comes to pitchers while preferring to give my hitters time to turn it around.
He’s only 20 and never played above Rookie ball before this season, but the Royals don’t have much reason to rush him. Before spring I would have said a 2021 promotion was highly unlikely. Now there’s a decent shot, but he’d probably have to really earn it in the minors. (It could be even tougher when Mondesi returns). But that move could definitely pay off in 2022 and beyond!
Hmm, do you have a mid-level SP you can trade for a solid SS? There was so much hype around Burnes before he went on the IL that you might have been able to get a top-tier SS (Turner, Story). Seager still has excellent numbers and may very be a four-category stud, but it’s hard to give up a pitcher with 49 strikeouts and no walks.
Is Gonsolin worth a pickup? Stash him on the IL?
He is if you have the roster space. He’s got a 2.60 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 86.2 career MLB innings. Not having a rotation spot was the only thing that pushed away drafters. That shouldn’t be an issue when he comes back with May out and Price also hurt/working in the bullpen.
I’m in a 6x6 roto AL only with 10 teams. We have unlimited in-season IL and minor spots. I picked up NIck Gordon, and he was sent down 2 days later. This is great, as he can sit in my minors until he gets better (though I have Mondesi, Franco, and Witt Jr. too). Is there any underachieving or unproven guy you think might get sent back to the minors that is worth picking up and stashing?
Taylor Trammell will probably get sent down so Seattle can make room for Kelenic.
I doubt he’s available in an AL-only league, but I’m wondering how much longer Cleveland will stick with Gimenez before realizing he hit over his head in a short sample last year and can use some Triple-A reps.
That’s all for me today. Thanks for hanging out, and go Mets!
Unfortunately, both those guys are rostered. I almost picked up Taylor Ward, but someone else got him moments before I could.
