Where is Cam Akers Going?

Rapoport: Rams fielding trade offers for Cam Akers

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the Rams “are expected to field trade calls” for Cam Akers.

Advice: Akers is sitting out this week for personal reasons. Sean McVay ominously ruled Akers out on Friday, later saying, “This is kind of unchartered territory and I think the biggest thing is, out of respect for the situation, we want to keep it internally.” Per Rapoport, Akers has “philosophical and football-related differences with head coach Sean McVay.” For now, Akers will continue to sit while the team attempts to move on from him. Darrell Henderson will start this week. The LA backfield has been unproductive up to this point, but Henderson should get most of the work, putting him in RB2 contention. It appears to just be a matter of time for Akers to be on a new team. My trade may yet work out.

Cam still has next year on his rookie contract and will cost NFL chump change of $2M. I’m guessing LA would take a 4th round pick to move on.

Akers is a bust with the Rams. Not sure if he is just a bust, or if new scenery will help him.

Can’t get any worse, I’d say. There are a couple of RB needy teams who might be interested in him. Broncos, Falcons, 49ers, Dolphins.

As an Akers owner, all you can do right now is hold him, see where he will end up and then hope that he will work better in the new environment.

Sorry the trade backfired for the moment, I certainly did not see that coming. As a consolation, I will tell you in advance which QBs I intend to start in my SFLEX tournament. Because those 2 starter spots in my fantasy league are guaranteed to spell real life trouble for the QBs in question. My latest victim is PJ Walker, who didn’t even make it through the first half. Since I also have Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, the poor Panthers were forced to deploy Jacob Eason. I don’t like David Tepper, so I guess I’ll add Eason, too… :smiling_imp:

Trades are lots of fun and having a few that do not work is part of the game.

I watched film on Akers and he missed openings he should never have done. He may not be recovered. Either way, he will have a 1 year prove it deal moving forward which will tell his tale…

Akers no longer qualifies for IR and had to drop him. My roster is super tight.
He likely will be released soon and will see where he goes.

Zak, Akers Strikes Again!

I knew you would go Pats D and out bid you to take them.
However, Akers coming off IR made Burks a must add to replace him and could not transfer him to IR until he was rostered.

So, you get the Pat and I get yet another likely MNF finish I hate. I said a few bad trades are part of the game but, you and this one are an exception,

I will not trade with you again until “Satan Is Throwing Snowballs on South Beach”

Haha, you read me like a book, man. I was indeed pondering between picking up Burks, moving him to IR and then take whatever D would be left on the waiver wire. Or pass on Burks and secure the Pats D, that not only looks good for this week, but has also a rather favorable ROS schedule.

At the end of the day, I was not convinced enough to see Burks as a definite keeper, despite his cheap round 15 keeper cost.

Bet you did not see my master move on TE coming, though. Picking up Daniel Bellinger as Goedert’s bye week replacement, right before his monster breakout performance against the Jags, was a strike of genius, if I may say so myself. :smiling_imp:

At worst I see Burks as a VG trade trade chip.

I did see Bellinger but with Ertz and Shultz no place to put him. Do not see him as any chance of being better than either but can be wrong. I took Tonyan in another league for a week.

5. TE Daniel Bellinger, New York Giants

The rookie caught all five passes thrown his way for 38 yards and a touchdown in Week 6, and he has gained the much-needed third-down snaps.

  • The fourth-round pick had been the Giants’ primary tight end on early downs this season, but Tanner Hudson took the third-down snaps.
  • Bellinger played all 16 third downs this week against the Ravens.
  • Hudson’s only snaps in this game came in three-tight end sets.
  • Bellinger now has a fantasy starter’s playing time, and he’s been the highest-graded Giants receiver on the season.
  • He now needs to improve his target share to be a fantasy starter. It’s better to pick him up before he reaches that point.
  • He is one of six tight ends who average 1.35 yards per route run or more and have multiple touchdowns on the year.

It’s a complete gamble. I wanted to add Bellinger in both my dynasties this offseason. But in one league, Romeo Doubs was still on the board, and in the other (drafting rookies & free agents there), it was Albert O. Whom I drafted in the late 3rd and promptly traded him for late 2023 2nd. :sunglasses:

I think Bellinger has a future in the NFL, and it’s also not a surprise that he gets involved early. If he will really have a strong game this week is a complete gamble, of course. I’d have preferred Tonyan myself, but he was not available.

I think Bellinger’s success has much to do with the Giants having no legit NFL WRs but does have a future.

Aso Zak if you are looking for a player I do not see, have to find a FA kicker in Germany who is a decedent of “Der Bomber.” That could work.

Former Bundesliga striker Manfred “Manni” Burgsmüller played 6 successful seasons as a placekicker for NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire team, 1996 - 2002. He retired being 52 years old.

Last year, football was revived here, with the European League of Football (ELF), that features several former NFL Europe franchises, including my home town team, the Hamburg Sea Devils.

Our placekicker last year was Denmark’s Phillip Friis Andersen, who had tried out for several NFL teams. While other ELF teams often went for 2, as their Ks struggled with converting PATs, Anderson easily scored 50+ yard FGs, with his season long being a 62 yarder. In rainy and windy conditions. Shame he retired after the season.
